As much as I love twitter, I have learned that the real value in using twitter is to create a well tuned network of like minded people.

I want to connect with people who share the same interests in life and business as well as find others that may be interested in my services and products. So how do you weed through the 6 million plus people on twitter to fine tune a targeted audience?
Here are a few tools to help you discover people you want to follow and follow you.
search.twitter.com/advanced - the definitive tool to search for keywords and find others tweeting about your interests. You can search exact keywords and phrases as well as hashtags. You can even filter your search results based on location, language and dates.
tweetchat.com – tweetchat allows you to follow a conversation based on specific hashtags. Hashtags identified by #, allow twitter users to track their tweets with a keyword, a way to organize twitter posts in a group. Not everyone uses hastags versus keywords, but its a great way to find people talking about a specific subject. I have found excellent people to follow based on other twitter users recommendations on #followfriday. Every friday login to tweetchat room followfriday and see what others are saying about fellow twitterers.
twitterfall.com – twitterfall works like twitter search and tweetchat where you can identify people to follow based on keywords in their post. Twitterfall also allows you to follow, reply and dm right from the application.
mrtweet.net - recommends people to follow based on your twitter posts relevancy. Mr tweet also allows you to see people following you that you are not following, read bios and follow right from the application.
twittgroups.com – although a simple application, there just may be a whole group of twitter folks already organized. Its worth spending a few minutes finding out. You can also create your own group.
Outside of the above listed appplications, there is another sure fire way to find other like minded individuals on twitter. Once you do discover a new person to follow, research who is following them. Chnaces are there are several people on their list that share the same passions. I have found this to be incredibly effective in discovering new interesting folks and its virtually an endless resource to exploit.
One other great technique that is surprisingly overlooked by many is to post links in your tweets. People are always looking for relevant content, so when you find an intersting article or video related to your field of expertise or interest, post the link, people will follow you and thus you then have an opportunity to follow them back.
